The second printing of Keynes’ intervention against the gold standard. Originally published in part as a series of articles in 1922 in the Manchester Commercial Guardian, Keynes made significant revisions and additions in 1923, published as this volume. The years after the Treaty of Versailles were a particularly unstable period for the global money supply, with the risk of hyperinflation demanding new instruments of monetary policy. In this book, Keynes proposed a series of novel measures to create a managed currency detached from the ‘barbarous’ gold standard.
