Amis, Kingsley.
Lucky Jim.

Publisher: Doubleday & Company, Inc., New York;
Date of Publication: 1954
Stock Code: 15188

First American Edition. Octavo, pp., 256. Publisher’s burnt sienna cloth with cream titles to spine, in an unclipped dust-jacket illustrated by Edward Gorey. Some offsetting to the end-papers, dust-jacket spine faded, with a 1cm closed tear to the front flap and some small chips to the spine head. Overall a very nice copy in a like jacket.

Sir Kingsley William Amis (1922–1995) was an English novelist, poet, critic and teacher. Best known for satirical comedies, Lucky Jim is widely regarded as one of the finest, and funniest, comic novels of the twentieth century. University lecturer James Dixon bumbles through life, haplessly tripping over his own good intentions, careering from fiasco to triumph to catastrophe. His tenuous position rests on his ability to ingratiate himself to his odious boss, while his almost girlfriend and colleague lurks like a neurotic thundercloud on his already hazy horizon. A bright copy of the first US Edition of Kingsley Amis’s hilariously nonsensical and deeply serious first novel.
