First American edition, after the Paris edition of 1924. Duodecimo, pp., 150, 2 initial and 3 terminal blanks, collated and complete. Publisher’s original brick-red cloth, titled within black-stamped frames to spine and upper board. Corners and spine-tips softened, top edge dusty; binding otherwise strong and square. Contents clean, bright, and fresh. An excellent copy.
The first American edition of Pound’s essay on the music of avant-garde composer George Antheil (1900-59). Pound was a patron and promoter of Antheil, whom he compared to Stravinsky. This book, which incorporates Pound’s radical theory of musical harmony, was poorly received by Antheil, who distanced himself from it almost immediately.
