Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) was a biographer, translator, and critic. Of his poetic work, Gosse called this book ‘the volume of my verses which has most of the tension of real life in it’. This first edition was printed by the Chiswick Press, which inherited the types used by William Morris at the Kelmscott Press. Riviere and Sons was a fine bindery operating in the English tradition. Their bindings are highly celebrated.
