Contemporary acid calf; spine on five raised bands; titled and ornamented in gilt to compartments; all edges sprayed red; marbled end-papers. Spine rubbed and edges of boards rubbed; upper joint cracked to head and tail but holding. Spotting to first map, minor tear to edge of first table; contents otherwise clean, and free of annotations or inscriptions. A solid copy, internally rather bright. Frederick the Great’s (1712-86) history of the House of Hohenzollern, the ruling house of Prussia, along with four essays on superstition, science, government and law. Frederick the Great was the first King of Prussia. His military victories and domestic reforms transformed Prussia into a major European power, and laid the foundation for the modern German state.
