Blunden, Edward.
Undertones of War.

Publisher: Richard Cobden-Sanderson, London;
Date of Publication: 1928
Stock Code: 15228

First edition. Octavo, pp., 317, [3]. Publisher’s original black cloth; titles in gilt to spine; white end-papers. In the original unclipped buff coloured dust-jacket. Minor perforations to joints; rubbing to fore-edge of boards; binding strong and square. Contents clean and free of annotations or inscriptions. Toning to spine-panel of jacket continuing to lower panel; minor paper repair to cloed tear at foot of upper panel; very small tape residue mark to lower panel. A solid copy, internally rather bright, in very good jacket.

Blunden’s classic memoir of the First World War, with his war poetry. G. S. Fraser called Undertones ‘the best war poem’, despite the fact that the book is in prose (quoted in Fussell, 254). Copies in the original dust jacket, especially in this condition, are rare.
