[First edition]. Octavo, pp., [6], iv, 278. Publisher’s wavy-grain olive cloth; titled to spine; blind stamped floral design to boards; edges sprinkled red; citron end-papers. Inscribed from the author on title-page ‘Mrs Sumper[?] // With the best wishes of the author // Henry Gilpin // Mar 1878.’ Corners bumped and rubbed; spine faded; lower hinge cracked but holding; otherwise square. Toning commensurate with age to contents. A solid, very serviceable copy.

A scarce volume of occasional poetry by an obscure Newcastle poet. Subjects within include slavery (which is firmly abolitionist), Florence Nightingale, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Tintern Abbey, and the Grainger family.
