An interesting presentation copy of the antiquarian James Raine’s study of Saint Cuthbert. James Raine (1791-1858), was a clergyman, author and antiquarian, founded the Surtees Society, which has been invaluable in the publication of works relating to the north of England. This book is an important account of the opening of Cuthbert’s tomb, published just a year after the event.
