David Jones (1895-1974) was a British painter and modernist poet. In Parenthesis is based on Jones's own experience as an infantryman in the Royal Welch Fusiliers serving in the First World War. Jones used a mixture of verse and prose, including Cockney and military slang. T. S. Eliot and W. H. Auden regarded Jones’s poetry among the best written of the modernist period. A bright copy.
