An account of the politics and people of the Balkans at the fin de siècle, by a British anthropologist who travelled extensively in the region. Durham began her travels in the Balkans at the turn of the twentieth century, travelling on horseback onto untracked routes in the Albanian mountains. She advocated tirelessly for the Albanian cause, founding the Anglo-Albanian society and writing frequently on the plight of the Albanian people.
