Peter Ackroyd (1946-) is a prolific British author having published 4 volumes of poetry, 18 novels and over 40 works of non fiction. Thomas More (1478–1535) was an English statesman and humanist scholar. His opposition to Henry VIII’s formation of the Church of England, lead to his execution for treason and martyrdom as a Catholic Saint.

This copy was inscribed by Ackroyd to his close friend and collaborator, the graphic designer Nick Robertson (1971-2025). The pair’s shared love of London, the Thames and urban exploration led to them walking the length of the river Thames over a course of Saturdays, culminating in the RIBA exhibition Dark Waters.
