Publisher’s green cloth; titled in gilt to spine with floral ornamentation; titled in gilt to upper board within circular frame; black-stamped border to upper board; the same border in blind to lower board; all edges gilt; citron end-papers. Corners rubbed; shelf-wear to spine-tips; gilt to edges a touch tarnished; spine cracked at C gathering cracked but holding. Light toning and occasional finger-marks internally. A very good copy. Originally published as a series of essays in the Atlantic in 1865, ‘The Chimney-Corner’ is a series of essays on domestic subjects. Originally published pseudonymously as ‘Christopher Crowfield’, the essays expound upon a frequent concern for Stowe: the role of women in American society.
