Peter Ackroyd (1946-) is a prolific British author having published 4 volumes of poetry, 18 novels and over 40 works of non fiction. London appears as the main character in many of Ackroyd’s works and here he paints a sparkling and vivid picture of one of the world’s great cities in this brilliant work, exploring how the city’s many hues have come to shape its history and identity. This copy was inscribed by Ackroyd to his close friend and collaborator, the graphic designer Nick Robertson (1971-2025). The pair’s shared love of London, the Thames and urban exploration in particular, led to them walking the length of the river Thames over a course of Saturdays, culminating in the RIBA exhibition Dark Waters.
