An excellent copy of a rare guidebook to practical divination. The volume draws on multiple esoteric traditions: from ancient Greek oracles, to Egyptian fortune-tellers, English cartomancers, kabbalists, and Chinese astrologers. The preface states that many of the sections of the book appeared for the first time in English in the first edition of this volume. This edition is considerably expanded, and includes additional plates depicting aspects of divination. The author, A. E. Waite (1857-1942), was co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck, a Freemason, a Rosicrucian, and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
