An historical novel set in the aftermath of Pompeii by a French occultist, from the library of the Theosophical Society in Edinburgh. Edouard Schuré (1841-1929) was an esotericist whose work draws upon the philosophy of Rama, Hermes Trismegistus, Socrates, Orpehus, and Jesus Christ. An acquaintance of Madame Blavatsky, he joined the Theosophical Society in 1884. Although not marked as such, this copy from a branch of the Society has interesting association with the author.
