Original blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to spine and titles with imperial eagle in black to upper board. Cover cloth rubbed to edge with very minor wear to corners and spine tips. From the library of Col Lancelot Robson of West Hartlepool, with his ownership inscription and address to front paste-down. Some toning to leaves, and foxing mainly to text-block edge and endpapers. A Very Good copy. Autobiographical work on the war at sea from the German perspective. Col Robson, the original owner of this volume, was the commander of the battery at Hartlepool during its bombardment by the German fleet on December 16th 1914; this was the first time that British civilians were in the line of enemy fire. The colonel was awarded the DSO for his actions, and made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George; pp. 67-76 cover the attacks on Hartlepool and Scarborough from the “other side”. £180.00
