William Fawcett (1727-1804) was appointed Adjutant General to the Forces in 1781, a role which involved his introduction of regulations to the infantry and cavalry, following a successful military career in the Yorkshire Regiment of the Foot and Dragoon Guards. His work was important to the deployment of forces in the Napoleonic and Peninsular wars. Each officer was provided with a copy but very few survive. With an early 19th century engraved armourial bookplate of Joseph Radcliffe Esq. of Milnsbridge Yorkshire (1744-1819) to the front paste-down. Sir Joseph Radcliffe, 1st Baronet was notorious for tyrannically crushing the Luddite rebellions, he was awarded the Radcliffe Baronetcy for his services. Scarce.
