Extended by four chapters and substantially revised, the work was written in an attempt to train young girls to “connect happiness or sorrow with conduct and character” and reinforce religious teachings and morals. While plenty of similar volumes were available aimed at young men, this volume attempted to redress the gender imbalance to give guidance to females.
