A very good copy, with presentation inscription in ink to front free endpaper: “For H.D. Ziman (another War Graves pilgrim) from Trevor Allen May 1961”. Spine a little toned, and titles dulled. Short pencil annotation to rear free endpaper, referring to chapter 2.
An account of the author’s journey to the theatre of war in Salonika, the Balkans, Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine, during which he and other old soldiers revisited significant sites. The illustrations include wreath-laying, memorial services and the unveiling of memorial monuments to the fallen. The recipient of the book, Herbert David Ziman (1902-1983) was a journalist, literary editor and war correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. Rare in commerce.
