One of the two principal books on the River Tyne (the other being James Guthrie’s “River Tyne”). Subject matter covers the history of improvements to the river for commerce and industry in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The Northumberland and Durham Association in London was founded as a social meeting point for Northumbrians in the capital, and it was common practice for authors of works on the history and topography of the area to present a copy to the association’s library. A handsome copy of this hard-to-find work. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
