FIRST EDITION. Quarto, pp. [6], 44 leaves of copper engraved plates (plate 13 misbound). Bound in contemporary maroon quarter calf and combed marbled paper over boards, blind fillets to edges, gilt floral spine ornaments and gilt spine title, sage green endpapers. Recased with original spine laid-down, small closed tear to first plate. Some browning to plate margins and sporadic foxing. A solid, neat copy free from inscriptions or annotations.
Collection of spirited and finely executed engravings of domestic animals and wildlife by esteemed Regency era artist and illustrator Samuel Howitt (1756/57–1822). The collection ends with a handsome series of large detailed animal portrait heads. Scarce, Worldcat locates just two institutional holdings.
