FIRST EDITION. 12 mo, pp. 156, [2]. The final leaf is both the errata leaf (recto) and the publisher’s ad (verso). Copper engraved frontispiece of sword and dagger. Old half calf with 5 raised bands and gilt titles to label to spine. Top edge gilt. Recased, retaining the original spine and corners abut with new boards. Corners a little rubbed. Pictorial bookplate to front paste-down; no annotation or inscriptions. Scattered light foxing; first leaves lacking lower corner tip & a few leaves corner creased; 1 leaf torn 2cm to fore-edge without loss. A solid copy.
History of the Battle of Flodden in 1513 in verse, with extensive notes. First printed in London in 1664 under the title ‘Flodden Field, in nine fits’. Lambe was the Vicar of Norham on Tweed near the battle site, and the title-page notes that the “Facts not to be found in the English History” are derived from a “curious manuscript in the Possession of John Askew of Palins-burn in Northumberland”.
