Cover cloth bright; inner hinge cracked at p. 1 but holding well. Foxing to text-block edge and prelims, otherwise contents clean with no annotation or inscriptions. Scarce anthology of thirteen short stories introducing Dr Louis Raphael, a fashionable young doctor who gives up his practice in London’s West End to study the scientific aspects of crime, acting as a consultant to Scotland Yard in cases such as ‘The Kester Diamond Case, the ‘Silver Mask’ and ‘The Terror of the Purple Room’. Charles Augustus Muir (1892 - 1989) was a Scottish journalist, novelist and historian best known for writing mysteries, many based in the Scottish Highlands. Rare, particularly in a well-preserved dust-jacket.
