Publisher: Bliss Sands & Foster, London,
Date of Publication: 1894
Stock Code: 12074

Second edition. Octavo, pp. xvi, 316. With a monochrome photographic frontispiece with tissue guard, a 22 further plates and a fold out map as called for. Publisher’s blue cloth with silver & black titles to spine and upper board and black & silver skis and skier motifs to upper board and black publisher’s motif to lower board. Some areas of loss to page edges, not affecting text-block, from original opening, and slight toning to endpapers. Small bruise to upper board corner and slight creasing to spine tips. Overall a very good copy.

Ethel Brilliana Alec-Tweedie’s follow-up to ‘A Girl’s Ride in Iceland’, chronicles her travels to Norway, following the death of her family, and challenges conventions of female travellers of the time. Ethel and her sister’s visits to Norway in the winters of 1891 and 1893 left a lasting impression due to the magnificent scenery and curious local customs. The frontispiece shows Ethel ‘in ski dress’, with cover design by George Miller and updated Preface for the second edition. Rare.
