Limited edition of 1000 copies only of which this is no. 179. Octavo, pp. xii, 255, [1]. With frontispiece portrait of the author and black and white illustrations by Graham Sutherland, with 3 facsimile leaves of the original manuscript to preface. Bound in two-tone cream and navy blue calf over boards, gilt fillets paralell to spine, black morocco spine label with gilt title, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Very minor light scuffs to binding, gilt bright. Free from ownership marks or inscriptions. A near fine copy.
Boldy signed by both Maugham and Sutherland to the limitation leaf. This Delicious satire of London’s inter-war Literati, originally serialised in Harper’s Magazine from March to July 1930, was Maugham’s personal favourite of all the books he had written.
