Publishers’ decorative cream cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, blocked in gilt and blue with stylised peacock and fairy design to upper board; blue pictorial endpapers. Spine lightly toned, and creased at tips; lower board scuffed with small stain to edge. Upper hinge cracked but firmly holding. Scattered light foxing, mainly to endpapers; tidy gift inscription in ink to half-title. A very good copy. Lavishly produced with an attractive binding and illustrations, this is a retelling of the story of the Sultan Shahriar and his marital career, with a fresh wife every day and execution for her at the end until Scheherazade saves the day with her expert story-telling leaving her spouse spellbound, postponing execution to another day... £180.00
