Bottle green half-calf with 5 raised bands, gilt titles to red labels and gilt decoration to spine and marbled paper-covered boards; all edges marbled. Spines very slightly sunned, and upper joint to Vol II starting but holding well; boards lightly scuffed. Scattered light foxing, mainly to prelims and plates; ownership inscriptions to first blank of each volume. A very good set overall.
An early novel by Trollope, and one of his personal favourites. First published in monthly parts with the first volume released nearly ten months before the second. The house in the book is based upon a farm once owned by the Trollope family and the story has themes of guilt, revenge and threatened loss of house and home, and the inheritance of the property following a court case, forgery and perjury.
