Widely recognised as one of the most influential texts on forestry ever published. A pioneering campaigner for aforrestation, Evelyn used Sylva to present his concerns over the depletion of wood in England by industry; glass factories, iron furnaces, and ship building and successfully appealed for mass planting of trees throughout the country. This edition is more generously illustrated with engravings and considerably larger than the first. Heavyweight so a contribution towards postage will be requested from overseas customers.
