Publisher’s royal blue cloth with gilt titles and stylised peacock heavily blocked in gilt to spine and upper board; all edges gilt with yellow peacock pictorial endpapers. Light toning to free endpapers and foxing tissue guard, otherwise a very clean & neat copy with only minor rubbing to spine tips; near fine condition.
Peacock’s final novel centres on Gregory Gryll whose plan to pass his estate onto his niece is thwarted by her inability to find a husband to meet her exacting standards. A handsome peacock binding which is illustrated throughout by F. H. Townsend, with an Introduction by George Saintsbury.
