First edition. Octavo, pp., [6], 159, [1] blank. Publisher’s original forest green buckram, titled in yellow to spine, in the original unclipped pictorial jacket. Inscribed by the author in blue ink to front free end-paper ‘To Tom & Hildegard // with love // Desmond Cory.’. Shelf-wear to jacket extremities, rubbing to joints, minor loss to head and tail of spine. Corners lightly bumped, foxing to edges not affecting text. Slight toning to contents but otherwise clean. A very good copy in like jacket.
An inscribed first edition of a thriller by celebrated mystery and espionage author Desmond Cory (a.k.a Shaun Lloyd McCarthy). Cory’s secret agent protagonists originally predated Ian Fleming’s James Bond, and Cory was frequently positively compared to Fleming in the press ‘[Cory] more than deserves to take over James Bond's avid audience’ (NYT Book Review, 1966).
