Flannery O’Connor (1926-1964) was an American novelist and short story writer in the Southern Gothic tradition. O’Connor’s darkly comic works were influenced by Faulkner, Poe, Joyce, and Dostoevsky. This was O’Connor’s first collection of short stories first published in 1955, when she described it as "nine stories about original sin, with my compliments".
