Garrett and etchings by W. H. W. Bicknell. Collated and complete. Uniformly bound in publisher’s red cloth; titles in gilt to spines; top edges gilt and fore-edges untrimmed; white end-papers. Corners light rubbed, a few minor spots but cloth and gilt otherwise bright; bindings strong and square. Occasional spots to contents but otherwise clean and free of annotations or inscriptions. A bright, attractive set.

The Byronic hero Edmund Dantes has long since passed into popular culture as the betrayed protagonist possessed by his desire for vengeance. The illustrator, Edmund H. Garrett (1853-1929) was a prolific American illustrator of literature and is well known for his illustrations of Dumas’ works.
