Third edition, after the first of 1657. Quarto, pp., [36], 224, [48]. Sig., [a]2 b-e4 B-2M4. Lacking the A gathering, which comprises the last four leaves of the prelims. Engraved and letterpress title-pages. Contemporary dark brown full calf; spine on four bands; titled in ink to paper spine label; double blind fillets to boards; gilt rolls to edges; all edges sprinkled red; white laid end-papers. Ownership inscription in ink of ‘Johannis Miller [...] 1702’ to front free paste-down; later ownership inscription in ink to same. Historic leather repair to joints; joints cracking but holding well; rubbing to leather; loss to spine-tips; corners bumped and rubbed. Occasional nicks and chips to edges, affecting text of a few leaves; contents otherwise clean. A working copy.
 
John Cosin’s (1594-1672) repudiation of the Council of Trent. In 1669, Cosin was one of the first to create a public library, which has continually operated in Durham ever since.
