With a tissue-captioned chromolithographic frontispiece, 7 tissue-guarded chromolithographic plates and numerous black-and-white lithographic illustrations within text, all as called for. Publisher’s original buttercup yellow cloth; titled in gilt to spine and upper board; fan vignette and vertical stripes blocked to cloth; woodblock-style mustard yellow-orange end-papers. Spine faded with a few finger-marks; corners slightly bumped; soiling to joints and corners; soiling to end-papers; one gathering starting but binding generally square and solid. Light toning to edges of contents but generally internally clean and bright. A very good copy. A beautifully presented history of Japanese illustrative printing from the earliest days of printing, to the Osaka school of the nineteenth century. The volume is a typically well-designed and artfully printed product of the Chiswick Press. £85.00
