Pound’s Cantos, his lifelong intellectual poetic diary written over 60 years, is widely regarded as one of the most significant works of modernist poetry in the 20th century. The “Pisan Cantos” instalment began at the end of World War II, during Pound’s internment in American-occupied Italy, and was controversially awarded the first Bollingen Prize in 1948.
