FIRST EDITION. Small quarto (18.5 cm x 12.5 cm), pp. vi, 162. 6 fold-out plates including frontispiece plan of Newcastle and Gateshead, and long Map of the River Tyne with water marked in colour. Original pebbled purple cloth with foliate decoration in blind to boards, and gilt titles to upper board. Pale yellow endpapers. Spine sunned with minor loss at tips; front joint split 5cm; corners bruised with wear. An ex-library copy with marks to spine, plate to front pastedown and stamps throughout, and a little marginal annotation. Inner hinges weak; Tyne map repaired to reverse; Map of Newcastle District and attached pp. 43-46 detached from textblock with associated minor soiling and creasing. A Fair copy.
A hand-book aimed at industrialists giving a reference to the industries and works around the country, written by the General Secretary of the Iron and Steel Institute (1846-1913). Scarce.
