Cloth clean and sensitively rebacked with original spine laid on; Armourial bookplate of Edward Balme Wheatley Balme (1819-1896) to front pastedown, historic shelfmark labels/pencil, and miniscule “m.t.w.t.f” inscribed neatly in ink to endpapers; Usual light scattered foxing mainly to prelims. Free from annotations or ownership inscriptions. Overall a very good copy.
Angling classic which includes fishing ballads that would later be collected by Joseph Crawhall III in his “Newcastle Fishers’ Garlands” published in 1864. With an extensive 52 page appendix in which Oliver offers an informed review of the angling literary canon to the mid-nineteenth century.
