Bound in the publisher’s original scarlet cloth with blind lozenge centrepiece to boards, gilt meander rolls and gilt title to spine. Spine sunned and lightly soiled. Some very light foxing to fore-edges and prelims otherwise contents tight, bright clean, and free from annotation or inscriptions. A very good copy. Scarce and sought after work on the Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling scene, with biographies of the luminaries of the sport such as William Richardson of Caldbeck, Robert Rowantree and Tom Todd following an overview of the sport through history and around the world; essays on bull and badger baiting follow, though these sports were made illegal by the 1835 Cruelty to Animals Act. £300.00
