Octavo, pp. xvi, 248, [8] advertisements. 8 engraved plates, including frontispiece of Shields Harbour with tissue guard, captioned "Entrance to the Tyne"; 7 plans, of which 5 are large & fold-out, comprising 2 double-page sectional elevations, the 1723 Plan of the River, Mr Ure's 1880 Chart, a sectional elevation of the Tyne bridges, Ure & Messer's 1879 Plan and a Longitudinal Section on the centre of the River up to Wylam. Publisher's dark green cloth with bevelled edges and gilt titles to spine & upper board; River God Tyne motif and ruling gilt-stamped to upper board & blind-stamped to lower. Cloth lightly worn at spine tips and corners but bright. Ownership inscription to front paste-down in ink; scattered light foxing, mainly to text-block edge and plans; 2 plans slightly misfolded with associated nicks & creases to edge.
