FIRST THUS. Octavo, pp. iii, [1], 332, [2]. Printed in red and black throughout in “Golden” type designed by Morris for Kelmscott Press, on hand-made paper. Publishers’ blue quarter buckram with printed paper title label to spine and blue paper-covered boards. Edges uncut. Additional title label tipped in to fore. Spine a little sunned, corners worn; free endpapers toned, tope edge dusty. A very good copy overall.
Early works of William Morris, first printed in “Oxford and Cambridge Magazine” in 1856 when he was twenty-two years old. Morris’s student years at Oxford inspired his love of medievalism and architecture, where he met his life-long friend and collaborator Edward Burne Jones. The selection comprises eleven prose pieces and five in verse. Scarce.
