FIRST EDITION of the Revised Text, and 1 of 100 copies only. Octavo, pp. 41, [1], printed on Millbourn handmade paper. Numerous woodcut initials, type flowers and musical notation of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Grey paper-covered boards with black titles and vignette in red to upper board, in unclipped matching printed dust-jacket. Small bruise to upper corner of lower board, and top edge just slightly rubbed. Tidy and unobtrusive initials and date to rear paste-down and a little very light foxing otherwise contents clean and crisp. Jacket slightly toned to spine with 2 cm & 1 cm tears and associated creasing to top edge/head of spine. A Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket.
Scarce study of the historically important collection of punches, matrices and types of John Fell (1625-1686), Bishop of Oxford, and bequeathed by him to the University, written and revised by the typographer and printer Stanley Morison (1889-1967). Issued by Charles Batey, the University printer, for distribution to his American friends.
