First Edition. Octavo, pp. xii, [5], iv-x, 276, [10]. Frontispiece engraving by William Bond from a portrait of Correggio in the Cathedral of Parma; Pedigree of the Family of Allegri. Black half calf with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled paper-covered boards. Leather rubbed at sine tips and a little worn at corners; boards lightly surface scuffed. From the library of Stubb House in County Durham, with printed decorative bookplate to front paste-down. Scattered light foxing, mainly to prelims and rear endpapers; inscribed catalogue of pictures of Correggio and Parmegiano to blank following Index. A very good copy.
Biographies of Italian renaissance artists. Scarce work published anonymously by William Coxe (1748-1828), the Archdeacon of Wiltshire, veteran traveller and historian, and the author of “Travels in Switzerland” amongst other works.
