First Edition. Square octavo, pp. xii, 204. Monochrome photographic frontispiece with illustrations and photographs throughout. Publisher’s green cloth with gilt titles to spine in an unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Upper page block edge shows very light foxing with slight bowing to boards. Jacket spine is extremely lightly sunned with very slight creasing to corners. Overall a very clean, neat copy; Near Fine in like jacket.
Account of the life of Louis Wain, whose work primarily focused on humorous anthropomorphic illustrations of cats and kittens, played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the 2021 film, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. Wain had schizophrenia which is believed to have influenced his art and this volume includes a section on the nature of Wain’s illness by Dr D. L. Davies.
