Muthesius was a cultural attache to the German Embassy in London during a transitional period for arts and architecture; his work covers the development of the English house during the period 1860-1900 including insights into planning, layout and social conditions, as well as an analysis of interiors, furniture and garden planning. Well illustrated throughout with monochrome photographs, architectural details, plans, drawings, images of furniture, fixtures and fittings.
