FIRST THUS. Octavo, pp. lii, 329, [3]; xi, [3], [331]-665, [1]. Illustrated in both colour and black-and-white, with colour frontispiece to each volume and several maps. Publishers’ pictorial sky-blue cloth with bronze titles, blocked in dark blue and green, housed together in blue paper-covered slipcase with peacock silhouette in green and titles in orange to front face. Very slight light foxing to text-block edge of Volume II otherwise both volumes as-new. Slipcase scuffed, mainly to upper and lower edges. A near Fine set in very good slipcase. The text follows the 1869 First Edition with minor emendations and the omission of the Appendix, and includes Wallace’s paper “On the Tendency of Varieties to Depart From the Original Type”, first published in 1858.
