FIRST EDITION. Large octavo, pp. xxiii, [1], 625, [1]. Errata slip tipped-in to fore. With 18 maps, of which 1 fold-out; numerous monochrome illustrations throughout, many full-page including frontispiece portrait. Publishers’ grass green cloth with gilt titles to spine in price-clipped pictorial dust-jacket.
A slightly shaken copy with cover cloth damp stained top edge; contents clean and crisp with no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket creased and torn with significant loss, and repairs using brown paper tape to both sides. Good in Fair jacket.
 
Biography of the American statesman by his daughter Blanche, the noted suffragist and writer. Ames served in the Union Army in the American Civil War and became a Senator; he was a radical republican, abolitionist and supporter of political equality for African Americans and he died at the ripe old age of 98. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
