The first full authoritative editions of the ink texts on wooden writing tablets discovered in excavations carried out between 1991 and 1994 at the fort of Vindolanda near Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. The editions are accompanied by translations and commentaries of palaeographical, linguistic and historical interest, and the tablets include military documents, accounts and correspondence relating to the officers, families and slaves of the garrison at the fort.
