First reprint. Octavo, pp. 848. Bound in the publisher's navy blue cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the unclipped publisher’s illustrated canary yellow dust-jacket with magenta titles.
Small, neat ownership name to ffep. else contents clean and crisp. Unclipped dust-jacket is slightly chipped to corners and spine tips but is bright, vibrant, and clean. A very good copy in like dust-jacket.
A pivotal work of English social history, Thompson's book placed workers at the centre of their own history for the first time and has been variously described as 'one of the most influential historical books of the twentieth century' and as a 'manifesto for the New Left'. In November 2015 the book was placed at number 11 on the list of 20 Academic Books that Changed the World along with Darwin's "Origin of Species" and Paine's "Rights of Man" amongst others. Scarce, especially so in such a well preserved fragile sugar-paper dust-jacket.
