Original sage green cloth titles in gilt to spine and in blind to upper boar; top-edge gilt. From the library of historian William S. Garson, with his address stamp to upper and lower paste-down endpapers, as well marginal markings and annotations in pencil (very likely in Garson’s hand). Minor light scuffing and wear.
The scarce original edition of Tomlinson’s classic local history work. Former owner William Scorfield Garson (1869-1946) was the author of “The Origin of North Shields and its Growth” and many booklets relating to local history in North East England, particularly North Tyneside, and was a founder member of the Tynemouth Antiquarian Society.
