Goat's Hoof

Publisher: Pascal Covici, Chicago;
Date of Publication: 1928
Stock Code: 12261

FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. 245. Illustrated by Donald Denton. A presentation copy inscribed “To such a friend of such a friend, Algernon Crofton”. Publisher’s fern green cloth with black titles to spine and front board, blocked cloven hoof in black to front board in an unclipped, striking pictorial dust-jacket. With light sunning to spine of dust-jacket, edge wear and slight loss to top edge of dust-jacket.

An obscure collection (in every sense) containing 22 short stories about love and the relationships between men and women, with overtones of the decadent. The blurb to the front flap states that the stories are “a guide to marriage and dalliance... related with gusto and relish” with Beardsley influenced illustrations described as “pagan and lovely, like the contents”. Published by Pascal Covici’s first publishing company, before he joined Viking Press.
